| In recent years with the establishment of the Dorothy P. and
Richard P. Simmons Center for Interstitial Lung Diseases through a generous
donation of the Simmons family, Pennsylvania has become a leader in research and
management of IPF patients.
The University of Pittsburgh Simmons Center for Interstitial Lung Disease is
the national leader in implementing genomics approaches to better understand
pulmonary fibrosis, and physicians at the center have gained national recognition.
Since its development 5 years ago, physicians and investigators from the center
have seen more then 1,400 patients with interstitial lung disease, have published
multiple papers, earned grants from NIH, established a local database and lectured
in multiple international conferences.
The Dorothy P. & Richard P. Simmons Center for Interstitial Lung Diseases
provides:
- state-of-the-art care for patients with interstitial lung disease that is

Dr. Naftali Kaminski: Associate Professor of Medicine,
Dorothy P. and Richard P. Simmons Chair of Interstitial Lung Disease, Division
of Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care Medicine. Dr. Kaminski’s research
has focused on the application of tools of functional genomics (including
microarray analysis) to investigate the gene profiles of a variety of lung
diseases including idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. He is the director of the
Dorothy P. and Richard P. Center for Interstitial Lung Disease. Dr Kaminski is
the PI on a large grant aimed at identifying new targets for therapeutic
intervention in IPF.
